The latest evidence is physician staffing firm Merritt Hawkins’ annual review of health professional recruitment. Physician assistants (12th) and nurse practitioners (10th) made it into the top 20 most recruited professions for the first time. Family physicians came in first.

Merritt Hawkins conducted the study from April 2012 to March 2013 and examined more than 3,000 recruiting assignments at a range of settings, including hospitals, academic medical centers, community health centers and medical groups.
